Keep Learning... with every issue, or now On-Demand

With thousands of articles published annually in geriatric medicine, it is an almost impossible task to sort through and read everything necessary to stay current. And there's the daunting task to even identify all the key clinical developments that are reported on in the numerous journals.

The physician-editors with Practical Reviews in Geriatric Medicine sort through dozens of publications, find the most relevant studies, summarize them, and suggest ways to apply this information in practice. Most of the reviews are available to you in convenient audio format — allowing you to download this material to your laptop, MP3 player or almost any portable device.

The traditional format of Practical Reviews allows you instant access to a database of geriatric medicine issues, CME quizzes, and reviews where you can comment and share ideas with colleagues. Choose whether to receive your issues online, or mailed to you each month on an audio CD with the Audio/Online option.

With the all-new Practical Reviews On-Demand option, you can search for information across more than 30 specialties and create customized monthly issues. You'll be able to earn unlimited CE creduts in both geriatric medicine and subspecialty topics.

ACCREDITATION

Statement of Need:

As is commendable by the ACCME criteria, CME is integrated into the process for improving professional practice with educational strategies implemented to remove, overcome or address barriers to physician change. Physicians are unable to consistently integrate new information into their practices because of the ways new medical knowledge is structured and disseminated, and the time it takes to completely scan for new information. Practical Reviews publications select and translate peer-reviewed literature for practical use, therefore diminishing the barrier of time.

Intended Audience:

Physicians, other health care professionals and additional interested individuals who provide medical services to older adults or who are interested in increasing their knowledge of elder health topics.

Special Prerequisites for Participants:

There are no prerequisites for participants.

Learning Objective:

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will demonstrate the ability to:

  • Recall recent subjects covered in geriatric and gerontologic medical literature, including those important in elder care that are often neglected in more conventional media.
  • Assess new methods for confronting the difficult clinical situations of geriatric medicine, as they are applied to ambulatory care, nursing home care and hospital care.
  • Explain evidence of the safety and efficacy of certain procedures.
  • Evaluate where controversy exists, and – with our distinguished editorial board of physicians – appraise the evidence and assess advantages and disadvantages of the methods in question.
  • Discuss controversies, advantages and disadvantages of diagnostic and treatment plans.
  • Integrate non-conventional principles and practices with conventional ones, while they select and employ the best of all available courses of treatment.
  • Apply reviews of the latest basic science findings and predict the impact of these on clinical problems.

The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine takes responsibility for the content, quality, and scientific integrity of this CME activity.
