Just How Good Do You Think You Are?


Objective: To determine if U.S. radiologists accurately assess their personal performance at interpreting screening mammograms, and to assess how they rate their performance with that of their peers. Methods: Radiologists who were involved in interpretation of screening mammography as part of the National Breast Cancer Surveillance Consortium (NBCSC) were identified. The NBCSC is a group of geographically based imaging registries that are linked to pathology and tumor registries. These radiologists were then mailed surveys that included questions about their own performance as well as their attitudes toward their self-audit data. Those who specifically responded to questions regarding self-assessment of recall rates, false-positive rates, and cancer detection rates were included.
