Determining Effect of Alcohol, Tobacco Use on Development of Psoriasis
Background: Associations with the risk of developing psoriasis have been studied. Diet, alcohol, tobacco, and many other factors have been looked into to see if there is any association with the risk of psoriasis. So far, little concrete evidence has been shown for any dietary, tobacco, or alcohol use. This study looked at alcohol consumption and tobacco usage on their associations with psoriasis. Objective: To look at the association between alcohol or tobacco use and psoriasis. Design: Genetic database study reviewing a large number of patients’ genetic data from the UK biobank. Methods: Linkage scores were developed to look for associations with smoking, alcohol use, and psoriasis. Results: Complex statistical and linkage analyses were done on a large amount of data (more than a million patients' data). No association was found with alcohol.
