AI-Based Mammography Best Way to Predict Future Breast Cancer Risk
Background: Multiple clinical assessment tools have been utilized to try to determine future breast cancer risk. Their validity is variable since their use depends on subjective personal recall. More recently, deep learning algorithms using artificial intelligence (AI) to determine future breast cancer risk have been developed. Objective: To determine the accuracy of AI methods of evaluating breast tissue mammographically in predicting future breast cancer risk. Design: Systematic literature review. Methods: Literature database search was performed to include topics such as mammography, AI, deep learning algorithms, and breast cancer risk. The articles were examined by 2 reviewers to determine the inclusion. Inclusion criteria for the studies required the use of deep learning image-based AI algorithms to predict future breast cancer risk. These AI methods were applied to screening mammograms using both digital mammographic and digital breast tomosynthesis imaging techniques. The area
