Breast MRI Detects Hidden Cancers in Dense Breasts

Background: The MA-DETECT study is currently determining if earlier detection of breast cancer can be achieved in dense breasts using MRI. Early results from indicate that such use of MRI may be beneficial. Objective: To report early results of the MA-DETECT study evaluating patients with dense breast and negative mammography with MRI. Design: Prospective screening study. Participants: Female patients in the German breast screening program with increased breast density on mammogram of American College of Radiology (ACR) C category (indicates heterogeneously dense) or ACR D category (indicates extremely dense). Methods: Patients underwent further evaluation with breast MRI.
