Background: There has been a significant increase in the use of cannabis in the general population over the last couple of decades, and there is little literature showing the implications this has on outpatient deep sedation in the oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMS) setting. Objective: To determine the influence cannabis use has during outpatient, office-based deep sedation for dental extractions. Design: Retrospective cohort study. Methods: Subjects who underwent deep sedation for extractions between January 2022 and December 2022 at the University of Oklahoma OMS clinic were included. Inclusion criteria were anesthesia/procedure length between 15 and 40 minutes; use of a combination of propofol, fentanyl, ketamine, and midazolam during the procedure; and extraction of ≥2 teeth.
