Asymmetric Pigmented Follicular Openings Uniformly Seen in Dermoscopy of East Asians With Lentigo Maligna
Background: Individuals of East Asian descent have a low incidence of lentigo maligna (LM) or lentigo maligna melanoma (LMM). Dermoscopic features of LM and LMM in this patient population have not been well documented. Correlation between the Breslow thickness (BT) and various dermoscopic features in these patients has not been published. Objective: To evaluate individuals with LM and LMM in a Korean population and perform dermoscopic evaluation; dermoscopic features were documented based on BT and analyzed for associations. Design: Retrospective study from 3 hospitals in Korea. Methods: 46 patients with facial LM or LMM were included for analysis. Statistical analysis was done looking for specific associations. Results: 100% of patients showed asymmetrical pigmented follicular openings, and 95% had annular–granular pattern and dark rhomboids. Numerous other features were seen and documented in the article. In tumors with a BT >1 mm, blue–white veil, red rhomboids, and li
