CCL Tx Using Restorabite™ Can Effectively Manage TMD-Related Trismus


Background: Temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD) encompasses wide range of disorders that can arise from the joint or associated structures. Chronic closed lock (CCL) can be a sequelae of anterior displacement of disc (ADD) or other disorders of associated structures. Prior to surgical intervention, conservative treatment usually includes NSAIDS and passive stretching exercises. Objective: To assess if Restorabiteā„¢, a new jaw stretching device, can be used to treat CCL. Design: Prospective clinical trial. Participants/Methods: From January 2022 to January 2024, patients were referred to oral and maxillofacial surgeons in New South Wales and Queensland. Inclusion criteria were age >18 years, maximum incisal opening (MIO) <35 mm, tenderness over the condyles, MRI confirmation of ADD without reduction, failed conservative therapy with rest/NSAIDS, and not having acute close lock.
