Assessing Impact of Collateral Status on BAO Tx


Background: Basilar artery occlusion (BAO) is a rare but devastating type of stroke, with high rates of morbidity and mortality. Age, time to treatment, stroke etiology, and collateral status affect prognosis; however, it remains unknown which characteristics might modify the benefit of endovascular treatment (EVT). Objective: To assess whether patients with BAO benefit more from EVT compared to best medical treatment (BMT) across different collateral circulation status and which clinical factors may influence prognosis. Design: Post hoc analysis of data from the ATTENTION trial. Methods: The ATTENTION trial was a randomized control study of acute BAO conducted at 36 hospitals in China between February 2021 and January 2022.
