Increased Mortality Risk in Women With History of IPV Who Suffer Ocular Trauma
Objective: To evaluate the relationship between ocular or orbital trauma and mortality risk among women with a history of intimate partner violence (IPV). Design: Retrospective cohort study. Methods: Data from the TriNetX network, an aggregated database of electronic health record data from 66 health care organizations between the years 2005 to 2024, were included. Female subjects (aged 18 to 55 years) having a documented history of IPV were identified. Further diagnostic coding was used to classify subjects based on a history of ocular or orbital trauma. Two other groups of female subjects with no history of IPV were also identified, one with a history of orbital or ocular trauma and a control group with no trauma history. Demographic and clinical information as well as data on emergency department visits for incidents of trauma, hospitalizations, and mortality were collected.
