AI Can Detect Bone Metastases on CT


Background: Since metastatic cancers often spread to bones, the detection of these metastases on imaging studies can help determine the most appropriate oncologic treatment options. Artificial intelligence (AI) methods using deep learning algorithms have shown promising results in analyzing imaging studies and detecting disease. The determination of whether AI methods could accurately detect skeletal metastatic skeletal disease is an important issue that might lead to improvement in oncologic patient management. Objective: To determine whether AI methods using deep learning models could be developed, which could accurately detect skeletal metastatic disease present on thoracic and abdominal CT scans.
